idc something is gonna happen to T2 and then every one will flee to T:V HAHAHA ive got it all planned out.lol
Here's some irony, T:V may die before T2 does.

A lot of us have Vengence cds, the majority of us have played it during the beta and demo stages and have returned to T2. If Starsiege 2845 is as good a game as I believe it to be... Vengence will take a huge hit, possibly a fatal one.

T1 and T2 will endure for all restricted to dsl and dial-up. As long as there are T2 servers, there will be players lined up to play, even with Starsiege 2845. Personally I like Vengence, but I love T2... I don't think I'll ever remove the game from my hard drive.

Vengence will only survive the test of time by the passion of those of you that love the game. T2 has survived that test... ("CS, HL, Planetside, HL2, Xbox Halo, Vengence, WOW, and BF2") not to burst your bubble but Vengence will have a quiz next spring when school lets out. The big exam will be when Starsiege 2845 is released. ;)

T:V has already 'died' in the same definition that is being used. The T:V community never exceeded the T2 community even in its prime (first few weeks of competition?). By the standards of modern gaming, failure to produce a community larger or of equal quality to a four year old game, especially when both are part of the same series is considered just that, a failure.

No offense intended.

You know, I've seen many people saying "Oh, TV is dieing, so I'm going to T2.", such as grims8ball. If fewer people said that, then it wouldn't be dieing!!!!!!!!!!! If more people stuck with it instead of going back to an old game, then it wouldn't be dieing. I understand that some people like T2 more, but some that love TV are going to T2 because they think TV is dieing... and it just wouldn't be if people had more faith in it.

Now, forgive my ignorance, but what is starsiege 2845?

it should not be the communities duty to support the dieing game the company who made the game should have patched it the people were angry that they had paid 40 to 50 dollars on a game that went 2 phases behind the "beta" in the beta the clan tag system actually worked get this! VUgames should have felt responsibility to continue to shove out money for this game the reason why tribes 2 is more popular is because its been patched and has more of a diversity in mods as you know tribes vengeance was chosen to be made on the "unreal engine" to be highly moddable and excuse my maniacle laugh when its quite the opposite. And it is the persons choice whether he wants to spend hours of his life on a game that is lucky to have about 60 or 70 people at peak gaming time or go to tribes 2 that has about a few hundred people or more.

It's not a matter of having faith, it's a matter of if it's fun enough to stick with in the long run. People aren't leaving because other people say its dying,
If people left because others said the game is dying, Tribes 1 and Tribes 2 would have died years and years ago. People are leaving because when compared to Tribes 2 and Tribes 1 it is lacking severely in the elements that made both of those games great and enjoyable for years. The people who never played Tribes 2 or Tribes 1 before vengeance are the ones who will probably last the longest in T:V for the simple reason that they never experienced what the first two were about.

There is no point to playing a game if you're not having fun.

Many won't agree with me on this, but part of the problem for most games are the countermeasures we take for cheating.

In T2; a cheater gets kicked and then banned, but a permanent ban was measure used as a last resort. A player could still play, but not on your server. Due to some new countermeasures I've heard attempt to restrict and ban players via their cd key. If this resticts a player from entering the one server they were caught cheating on... that fine. But if this measure bans them from all servers, servers they never ventured on too... that's extreme!

The reason I say this is because, if you look at strategy guides, cheat and hidden code sites on the web, most kids look for this stuff. The gaming industry is feeding this genre of gaming for PC's, Xbox, PS and Nintendo game systems. Most kids buy the books and look for codes as soon as they buy the game... no one wants to be a "loser"! It's only when they encounter a Tribe or community that enforces rules and regulations that they realise they did something wrong.

In T2 we've encountered children and adults that decided to remove theses cheats to play an honest game. So cheaters can be "rehabilitated"!

As admins of gaming servers, we should "permaban" as a last result. These games aren't cheap, Vengence and BF2 still cost $49.95 at best buy here in Philly. Permabans will add in the destruction of your community, it would be better to kick and ban to retain order, permabans should last for a month.

The cheater should be marked and questioned if they have removed their cheats and can can control their negative actions and/or language. If they can the bans should be removed pronto if you desire to keep your community alive!

I think they're taking this step because of the small size of the community, but there really isn't any other way to do it given the size of the community. Everything one does is in ears (or should I say eyes?) reach of every one else in the community with Vengeance. There are no major mods seperating the vengeance community and creating the rift of communication like in T2. Ultimately, yes this will destroy whats left of it to the very few honest players who even bother with it at that point. You are correct on that DUN.

That is ridiculous to ban via CD code. For starters, is that legal!?!? To basically make a purchase worthless.... someone needs to read the license agreement I think that would raise some legality questions... although it is their servers but to do it game wide... *shakes head*. Cheaters CAN be rehabilitated like you said, and many only do it occasionally, not all the time. Also, many people will cheat when they are getting tired of the game, just don't really care anymore, or believe that other people are cheating. Too be honest, back when I played C&C Renegade, there were so many hackers that I too turned to hacks, and got banned from basically every renegade server known to man kind. Also, doesn't anyone realize that too make accurate anti-cheats or know what to look for, one has to use them? I have seen people, as in seen them using it in real life, use such things as panzer bot for TV, and the experience you gain in being able to recognize it by watching someone use it or using it yourself is invaluable in catching other cheaters. In short, a CD key ban is absolutely ridiculous, and I for one don't think cheaters should be banned right off the bat period, and I could cite other reasons and stuff but this post is really long enough already and I have an english essay to do and stuff so that just sums it up.

Read the "Terms and Conditions" section that you agree to before you install the game. I couldn't tell you what the TV terms are, but I would gander there's a section regarding hacks, cheats, "modifications", etc. that authorizes them to ban you if caught. As for individual servers, of course they can ban you - you are using their bandwidth, essentially treading on their property.

Purchasing a game does not buy anyone the "right" to play the game on an online server. Servers are offered by hosts (personal people or game companies) and the hosts have the final say who is allowed to play or not play on their server. The old "we reserve the right to refuse service" applies to any privately hosted server.

I would imagine this rule differs a bit for "free online" vs. monthly "pay to play online" games (not talking about the original purchase price), however Pharoah's post likely covers that loop hole. Anyone paying monthly to play online has undoubtedly agreed to terms that state their service can be banned or discontinued if the game is modified or hacked!
