Subject: Pending Legislation to re-institute the draft >Date: Sun, 26 Sep 2004 15:31:39 -0700 (PDT) > >Mandatory Draft Legislation Please Read

Mandatory draft for boys and girls (ages 18-26) starting June 15, 2005, is something that everyone should know about. This literally effects everyone since we all have or know children that will have to go if this bill passes.

There is pending legislation in the house and senate (twinbills: S89 and HR 163) which will time the program's initiation so the draft can begin as early as spring, 2005, just after the 2004 presidential election. The administration is quietly trying to get these bills passed now, while the public's attention is on the elections, so our action on this is needed immediately.

Details and links follow. This plan, among other things, eliminates higher education as a shelter and includes women in the draft. Also, crossing into Canada has already been made very difficult.

Actions: Please send this on to all the parents and teachers you know, and all the aunts and uncles, grandparents, godparents. And let your children know - - it's their future, and they can be a powerful voice for change! This legislation is called HR 163 and can be found in detail at this website: http://thomas.loc.gov/ Just enter in "HR 163" and click search and will bring up the bill for you to read. It is less than two pages long.

If this bill passes, it will include all men and ALL WOMEN from ages 18 - 26 in a draft for military action. In addition, college will no longer be an option for avoiding the draft and they will be signing an agreement with Canada which will no longer permit anyone attempting to dodge the draft to stay within it's borders. This bill also includes the extention of military service for all those that are currently active. If you go to the selective service web site and read their 2004 FYI Goals you will see that the reasoning for this is to increase the size of the military in case of terrorism.

This is a critical piece of legislation, this will effect our undergraduates, our children and our grandchildren. Please take the time to write your congressman and let them know how you feel about this legislation.

Either Snipeye is pranking us or someone pranked Snipeye :(. No reason to draft since there probably won't be that big of a war anytime soon. Oh well, *claps* for Snipe's joke :).

I've followed this campaign since the day it started, 9/11! I wonder how many children of the our nation's executive, legislative and judicial branches will be forced to participate, and how many marriages/families will survive if their children enter a combat zone! :(

Note: Every retiree I know without a serious disability has been called into active duty... I don't think its a prank!

I read on the Selective Service Website that they have no plans of now or have any intensions thus far on calling a draft!

But as Snipeye's post says, they may be keeping it on the low side of things to not affect the presidential election!

Who knows!

I think this country is drastically falling apart, thats my oppinion!

Nope- not a joke from me, and this came from a reliable source so I have no reason to believe its a hoax. Just thought Id bring this to people's attention so they can create their own views about it. Recommend visiting the sites I have listed.

I read the bill more seriously now and I dnno if I read it right, but there's a provision in how the President uses this act, and in a weird sense, I guess, its sounds to me that the President can create his own "paramilitary force" to excercise and wield in the US under the idea that its for "national defense." Disturbing...

This is the same military handing out free boob jobs as incentive for women to join up. Ranks are desperately low, from what I understand, and I don't even follow this stuff!!!!!

I glanced at it,it was interesting, but it dont really take alot of thought to see that it is comming anyhow.

just see how we over streached or national gaurd, theses guys are being away from home for a year or better,Do you think they will wanna reup?
I think not! these are blue and white collar people that are being paid at a lower income than they would be working there jobs at home ,well most of them anyhow, when your away for a year at a fraction of your income things at home dont get paid . I have seen this first hand.
Not to mention the calling up of the people that did there time and were called back.

im telling you the way things are looking we are headed for Iran or North Korea or anyplace else the war machine decides to go gunslinging

suckers. http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/draft.asp
Quote:
As reflected in the message quoted above, the draft issue has largely come to public attention due to pair of bills introduced in Congress (S.89 and H.R.163) which seek to obligate all citizens and residents of the U.S. beween the ages of 18 and 26 (both male and female) to perform a two-year period of national service (not necessarily as part of the military), and the Selective Service's advertising for volunteers to man draft boards around the country. However, both these bills were introduced not by legislators genuinely seeking to reinstate the draft, but by Democrats seeking to make an anti-war statement.

Definitely a good find... I've heard rumors of this, but even though someone INTRODUCED the bill, doesn't mean it would actually pass. I think public sentiment would be enough for it to get vetoed or voted out.
