October 20, 2007 (CARBONDALE, Ill.) - Authorities say an autopsy will probably take place this afternoon for a 19-year-old Southern Illinois University Carbondale student who died this week.

Alex Booth, a sophomore mechanical engineering major from Quincy, died Thursday evening of unknown causes. The Jackson County Coroner's office says an autopsy will take place pending availability of a pathologist.

Booth was taken from his residence in Pierce Hall to the hospital, where he later died. University spokesman Rod Sievers said no evidence was found at the scene suggesting any means of death, which makes the situation "mysterious."
