Hello people with the release of the T:V MP Demo, I realized that there isn't really a post about this yet so here it goes. (To be updated as needed.)
General "you should know" things:
Enable the console.
- Open the properties on you T:V MP Demo shortcut.
- Add "-console" to the end of the target
- it should look like this. "F:\Program Files\VUGames\Tribes Vengeance MP Demo\Program\Bin\tribesv_mpdemo_en.exe" -console
- Start tribes up and press "Tab" to access the console.
Console commands.
- Stat FPS. This gives you the frames per second.
- Stat net. This give you a read out of the network info ping/packet loss/etc
- stat none. Removes the all stats being displayed.
There is a "feature" enabled by default which might be dropping your frame rate. It is called reduce mouse lag. This feature was implemented by EPIC in the U2k3 engine in one of the later builds to increase the accuracy of you mouse under the direct3d renderer. However this "Feature" is a mighty large FPS hog (Some people have reported 25% gain in FPS by disabling this feature.) So to disable it do the following.
- Open your Tribesv_mpdemo_en.ini file, located in your x:\...\tribes vengeance MP demo\program\bin folder.
- Edit the line "Reducemouselag=true" to "Reducemouselag=false"
- Save changes and exit.
This line is found under the "[D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]" section.
To help raise your FPS further try changing these settings in game.
[*]Glow effect turn "medium" or "low/off".
[*]Water detail "high", "medium", or if you are lacking in the hardware department "Low/Off"
[*]Shader 2.0 "Off"
These keep the game looking great and playing smooth for me (Min Fps 45, my specs are:
3.0Ghz P4 HT
1024 mb 3200 DDr
Radeon 9700 Pro 128mb
1024x768 no aa/af

To remove the startup screens and quit screens do the following:
- Edit this file ---> TribesGUIState.Init
- Edit the below Lines to be:
EntryMenuClass=
ExitMenuClass=
That will remove the Intro/Exit screens

Fun modifications for the game so far.
Speedbar. This is my personal favorite. It shows you current speed!
It is best to install smoketrails mod. Then add mortartrail mod and manually edit the lines detailed in the readme for the mortar trail mod. Otherwise the visualeffects.ini will be overwritten.
Colored Smoke trails. Well this is a great thing of beauty!

I didn't notice any framerate issue, but my framerate is already low on normal settings.
Don't forget to backup VisualEffects.ini if you want to switch back to regular trails.
This is my 1st modification, so if you can make better smoke trails, please do. :]
Smokey mortar trails!!!. Take a wild guess as to what this does. Give up? Well it turns the green ribbon into green smoke like tribes 1/2! YAY!!
That's all for now. If you want any more information post requests here.
