Let me introduce myself. My name is Bill Weber.
I am for the better part of not a little, the founder of an Old T2 clan, the GWoS. For those who dont know, this was my sad sorry attempt at trying to get away from competitive gaming because Id pretty much reached the pinnacle of my gaming ability back in '99. Go figure right? Who knew? I didnt. Wasnt until I got in front of some uber game players that it came to me that I just didnt have what it took to do the job. I would later be reminded of this during which I qualified for a few LANs playing Ut2004 (and yes, yet again I had my arse handed to me by what would then become my arch nemesis Jon Wendel.)
So I started playing Tribes. Boy that was a drastic change different than playing Quake 2 (you know LD will probably tell you this, and I can attest to it, Quake always gave me the damn shakes). Well then Tribes 2 came around. I started playing heavily (I had a friend named Paul that was a big time player, map editor, and few other odd bits as well, and member of the now defunct =V=), and I got hooked on it immeidately. Of course like most I had purchased the game straight out of release. People started following me around , that collection of people would become the 2nd large grouping of the GWoS T2 clan. Yeah, Sure, like I could get a bunch of people to follow my Scottish arse around. Really, they didnt, they just didnt want to tell me.
Well that was it. Some of the oddest bunch of Tribes 2 players crammed into a small group. None of which im sure any of you have heard of -- Mindflayer, Maramasa, ZeroBahamut(became KingBahamut later when it was insinuated I should be something other than what I was, go figure, youd think Id learn, I didnt, but oh well), Guha aka Gunny Hathcock, Kenshiro, Shinshiro, Smitty74, Smaug, Roc, Juvin, Gladius, and many more others my disgusting photographic memory refuses to forget. I mean really, how can you forget the days of a fully loaded Carrier, hovering over the main Katabatic base dropping the green haze of Mortar fire? You know what, I can't , no way. Dont wanna forget that feeling.
Then somewhere along in my journey I ran into LD. Someone as professedly hardcore about gaming in Tribes as me. Is that possible? Sure theres always someone better than yourself. I know there is me, Im just a depressed Linux developer writing out his life story to a bunch of people that of which only a select few might actually even remember. Wait, did I say that, hold on. Well sure why not? Sure Id played on Gigs server more than once.
Sure Id done the classic Baha's BSOD (My own signature move in Tribes 2) -- for those who dont know , I perfected that odd technique of dropping a satchel charge into the destroyed katabatic midbase , then going up into the cubby above it(with the blue screen looking down clear into below it, waiting for the repair geek to come in there, and then said "Hey Look Up" , upon which Id wave at the party, and set the charge off, sending them into oblivion -- More than once I was banned from servers during gameplay tourneys for doing this move.
So somebody go grab LD and tell her to remind me of the old days before I lose sight of it.
