Let me introduce myself. My name is Bill Weber.

I am for the better part of not a little, the founder of an Old T2 clan, the GWoS. For those who dont know, this was my sad sorry attempt at trying to get away from competitive gaming because Id pretty much reached the pinnacle of my gaming ability back in '99. Go figure right? Who knew? I didnt. Wasnt until I got in front of some uber game players that it came to me that I just didnt have what it took to do the job. I would later be reminded of this during which I qualified for a few LANs playing Ut2004 (and yes, yet again I had my arse handed to me by what would then become my arch nemesis Jon Wendel.)

So I started playing Tribes. Boy that was a drastic change different than playing Quake 2 (you know LD will probably tell you this, and I can attest to it, Quake always gave me the damn shakes). Well then Tribes 2 came around. I started playing heavily (I had a friend named Paul that was a big time player, map editor, and few other odd bits as well, and member of the now defunct =V=), and I got hooked on it immeidately. Of course like most I had purchased the game straight out of release. People started following me around , that collection of people would become the 2nd large grouping of the GWoS T2 clan. Yeah, Sure, like I could get a bunch of people to follow my Scottish arse around. Really, they didnt, they just didnt want to tell me.

Well that was it. Some of the oddest bunch of Tribes 2 players crammed into a small group. None of which im sure any of you have heard of -- Mindflayer, Maramasa, ZeroBahamut(became KingBahamut later when it was insinuated I should be something other than what I was, go figure, youd think Id learn, I didnt, but oh well), Guha aka Gunny Hathcock, Kenshiro, Shinshiro, Smitty74, Smaug, Roc, Juvin, Gladius, and many more others my disgusting photographic memory refuses to forget. I mean really, how can you forget the days of a fully loaded Carrier, hovering over the main Katabatic base dropping the green haze of Mortar fire? You know what, I can't , no way. Dont wanna forget that feeling.

Then somewhere along in my journey I ran into LD. Someone as professedly hardcore about gaming in Tribes as me. Is that possible? Sure theres always someone better than yourself. I know there is me, Im just a depressed Linux developer writing out his life story to a bunch of people that of which only a select few might actually even remember. Wait, did I say that, hold on. Well sure why not? Sure Id played on Gigs server more than once.

Sure Id done the classic Baha's BSOD (My own signature move in Tribes 2) -- for those who dont know , I perfected that odd technique of dropping a satchel charge into the destroyed katabatic midbase , then going up into the cubby above it(with the blue screen looking down clear into below it, waiting for the repair geek to come in there, and then said "Hey Look Up" , upon which Id wave at the party, and set the charge off, sending them into oblivion -- More than once I was banned from servers during gameplay tourneys for doing this move.

So somebody go grab LD and tell her to remind me of the old days before I lose sight of it.

Stay away from him Olga, he's a ladies man for sure. That scottish accent he has works in his favor, not to mention his charm. Just keep yourself a good 5 paces away from him and you should be fine. Same goes to you Mom. ;)

Yes, very good times we have had. And you are right, I don't think I told Dunna any tales. I'll let them all figure you out on their own.

Sure good hearing from you....you ole' rascal you.

Well My friend I do remember you from way back, I was part of the sCs tribe.
Steel City Snipers. this is Yardutymom07!
Wow come an play with us if you get the itch!!!
Your names have all left but your not forgotten.
I do recall lots of radical competions with you all from twl days.
I have been fortunate enough to have fallin in with this wonderful group of people for a few years now!!
We all still play T2 and have a blast at it.
We spend time with the community planning events that most of the players attend and our practices are still pretty populated!
We do have the <=RD=> The Dawg Pound Server up and running, and i think Striker still works on the <=RD=> Havoc Wars server from time to time!
Come on back and bring your group! the more the merrier!
<3 Mom07!

I remember seeing the GWoS tags way back when. I was mostly classic in my early competition days. I played for Team Riven. With Solarwolf and Cyclops and all them.

I can't really remember any names from GWoS as I only saw the tag a couple times during my classic comp days, but that doesn't mean you're not a memorable group. Think of how many people played way back then. One tribe being recognized all over the T2 world by the remaining survivors is very unlikely especially considering that most of our population is now made up of players that have only started playing T2 within the last 2 years or so.

So, if you're coming back to play T2, I can't wait to play with you and just for the record, I've never fallen for that trap. ;)

Well let me settle the T2 - TV toss up.

With TV I got tired of people not dealing with my "Do what it takes attitude" with respect to offensives. Yes, I will park the buggy in the gen room if i have to do it. And have done it. I have no compunction about parking myself in the gen room, grappled to the cieling and lobbing mortar shells into either incoming side of the map. More than once Ive been accused to excessive raping. Those who know me from T2 will know I had a whole team of 4 heavies once that sat in the katabatic base, with turrets (all of them at one point because we had two uber chasers that could take down any flagger) 2 inventory stations and rotating patrols. It was the same in TV if I could get away with it. And Never did power come on for those teams.

That be said ,

In arena I just got tired of being accused of Boting and cheating. I was mediocre at best , and very lucky. I can usually MA with the best of them, and more than often , I do.

TV now has bot detectors that are amazingly accurate. No one gets accused of cheating unless its from a newb that doesn't know the servers are being monitored by BEML and TWL staff. Records are kept of all cheaters and they are banned from all Antics monitored servers. So if you come to LadyLand or GigsWorld in TV, you'll be cheat free and the team won't allow anyone to call you one.

So come play. We play Sundays and Thursdays, 9 p.m. eastern.

Well My Ubuntu box, the Linux distribution I happen to support quite heavily (if none of you had actually noticed. Even back in my T2 days I didnt game on a Windows machine EVER....yes yes, Im militantly antiwindows, but I still like you even if your not.), happens to have installed my old Loki Games installer of t2, just need to update it.

Additionally , for sates sake, Ill install Vengence on my stock DirectXwine subset Wine install, and get him running too. =)

I guess its fairly stupid to ask if anyone actually ever tried to play Legends.

Note to all: An old old T2 member [GWoS]Ivo decided she would draw a "What I think KB would look like if he really were a dragon" pic. Thats where the KingBahamut Plat Dragon you see at the top of the thread comes from. For a really interesting look into interpretations about it, go here -- http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=70437

You should get along with striker very well, with the whole linux obsession.

Good to see old tags around.. too bad I gagged over T:V. Probably missed seeing alot of old faces.. err names.

Cyn, I wouldnt call it an obsession.

I learned to compute on a SunOS machine @ GATech, I never owned a Windows machine , never had a need for it. Its a family thing. That often requires explanation in our Freenode channel #ubuntu-gwos (where most of the other GWoS members that are still active hang out).

ok, yes, I owned a win98 box at one time because gaming was difficult but for actual business purpose I never owned a windows machine for any reason.
