Ok, I was browsing the internet the other day when I came across a car site the required quicktime. So I installed it but what I didn't know is that along with quicktime Viewpoint Media player was being installed on my computer. Now I read everything step by step and nowhere in the terms of service or privacy statement did it say that Viewpoint Media player will be installed on my computer. I have had some bad experiances with Viewpoint. I have had my computer hacked by someone next day when I got viewpoint media player. So The other day I went to uninstall Microsoft office 2003 and upgrade to Office XP(I find XP better) and I find that viewpoint media player has been installed on my machine. I was outraged, angry, furious..well you get the idea. Now my question is that is this legal? and what actions can be taken from preventing others from getting into harms way.

Discuss.

Legal? Probably, cause that quicktime is like a virus to get rid of and no one is spared.

I got this thing called Quicktime Alternative, which is probably some kind of non-legal hack, that works just like Quicktime, but without all the hassle of Quicktime.

Quicktime Alternative for the win

legal action? no there is nothing you can do. You may not have noticed the notificaiton that viewpoint will be installed, but it was there and you clicked ok. Its on my system too, and i dont know how it got there either.

But i honestly would say that viewpoint had very little to do with your computer being hacked

this viewpoint thing must be very new. I've never encountered it before in my many QT installations. I use QT pro ver 7 now ... absolutely no issues with it.

QT alternative is ok too i guess. But if you want the best, free, multiformat player .. including most of the codec you'll ever need. Get VLC player. it rocks the shazba. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

It may not come right out and say "By agreeing to these Terms of Service, you agree to have the Viewpoint Media Software installed on your computer as well."

It may have been something very vague like "By agreeing to these Terms of Service, you agree to have any additional software bundled in this software package place onto your computer."

Or something extremely vague like "By agreeing to these Terms of Service, you will recieve software updates automatically."

Gotta read between the lines. ;)

Yes Dunna, and you'd get Viewpoint Media Player as an added bonus.
