And all the hot miami girls are just visiting their grandparents?

Lady florida is a rather large state, if you give me more specifics as to where in florida I might be able to help.

I just got off the phone with my old friend who lives in Tampa. Well, just outside of Tampa to the east. They faired pretty well through all 4 of them. So I guess its just a crapshoot to who gets hit.

Anyway, we're looking for a large community in Florida. Not far from a beach. Somewhere where it has a lot of diversity, good job market, opportunity to meet lots of people and is nice. I think the website my friend found suggested Tallahassee, Jacksonville and one other (who's name I forget) that fell within her search requirements.

Well, I know the Sewalls Point is very nice.

If your looking for something a little more urban, Miami is a great choice, but hight crim rate, lol.

I lived in Jacksonville for 2 years. It's diverse, there are lots of jobs, and it wasn't hit by "any" of the Hurricanes directly . . .

The schools are good, the "Gators" are there, they can't go wrong.

I lived in Saftey Harbor which is just over the Courtney Cambell causway (rt 60, west of Tampa bay) for 2 years . I'm still trying to figure out why in the heck I moved back to VA.

This was 15 years ago but the cost of living was low and the income was also low compared to the national average. There was no state tax!! I liked that aspect.

If you friend goes to Florida make sure as soon as they get there they get all kinds of insurance on thier residence for the reasons mentioned in the prior posts. Make sure they dont put it off. My dad built a new home and he assumed <smacking forehead> that all the insurence would transfer. If his home was hit by the latest hurricane he would have not been covered.

Anyway if they go there and they like the night life let me know, heh heh, theres all kinds of places to enjoy the city. Ybor city is the best especially if you're a cigar smoker (like me :D ) or you want to enjoy an evening on the city. It's also known as an alternative to Mardi Gras. I cant attest to this as I go to the real one in the French Quarter. Umm.. ok I won't go there

Also make sure they understand the laws there. They vary from county to county but they can be VERY conservative. Tampa is fairly liberal but the surrounding areas are a few decades behind the times.
