I was about to purchase WoW when I came across Guild Wars. I was advised at the store that I was buying from that they preferred Guild Wars. They said the graphics were slightly better and there was an attractive zero dollar monthly fee.

So . . . just wondering if anyone can speak to pro's and con's.

Your thoughts are most appreciated.

My only worry is how will it continue its operations, besides funding it via upgrades and expansion packs. As well as how well it'll handle. Its a big thing, but I'll wait for it to mature a lil.

I can honestly say I'm a GW addict...

yes the thing they are going to do though is release expansions i own them both pharoah. WoW still holds my interest Guild Wars is played way less the WoW atleast by me and my friends that is. I bought guild wars mainly to play when my wow subscription needs renewed and i don't get paid until a certain day WoW is better gameplay wise. Guild Wars is better graphics wise. Gameply > Graphics.

This is probably the bane of both games, but I really got irritated in Everquest with the "camping". I payed x$'s per month so that I could sit in front of a spawn area and wait for a main character to spawn . . . bleh - got old.

How much "camping" do you do in WOW? How much in Guild Wars? I would much much rather have random spawning with "special" items randomly popping up in the world. That way I don't have to sit around a camping spot and compete with the dozens of other players in the game for the "main quest".

well thats the thing wow and guild wars really dont make you wait long but Guild Wars Gives you your own world just you and your party go outside of the "Districts" There is noone else in that world you are in outside of the "Districts". In WoW i have never had a problem with bosses because most of the quests require you to summon the main boss. With some sort of item.

Lmao and if u think WoW isnt about pvp yer sorely wrong i play on a pvp server on wow basicly Horde vs Alliance and thats all we do during questing and raiding is fighting alliance ilove wow and dont think i could ever leave wow for guildwars, i did beta test guildwars looks good had potential but where it lost me is the lack of originality of the chars everyone looks the same basicly and when i played it it seemed very PVE and not PVP. If u ever played Daoc it is very similar the combat and the way u pvp its not boring like EQ pvp u get points for killing peeps in which u get contribution points in turn makes u able to gain ranks in which u can buy pecial items. there is still normal PVE raiding like there wasi n EQ and all that even in PvP and as far as bosses and target mobs in instances are like private dungeons u and yer party or raid gorup can go into that no one else can unless they arei n yer groups which i really liked, reminded me of the LDON in EQ. in my opinion i suggest getting hooked to both and do what beggin does play one when wow subscription is out lol or just go all wow most of my guild beta tested guild wars also and liked wow better. but u dont have to take my word on it, i just played alot of mmo's and these are ones that appeal or do not appeal to me.

Actually, camping isn't that bad on WoW in my opinion. Having played EQ and WoW, EQ camping is a LOT worse than WoW. For EQ, you usually had to wait several hours for a specific item to drop off a specific mob. So say in 8 hours, you would have killed him 16 times, but only 4x did he drop what you needed. A 25% return in a period of 8 hours. OUCH! In WoW, 1 kill gave me what I needed, and when another group killed my mob, my group only had to wait 10 minutes for him to respawn. And another great feature is you can share your quests with other members of you group as long as you're similar in level. WoW gets my vote. Don't worry about Guild Wars unless you are VERY cheap.

I am cheap, but not VERY cheap. SO far I am leaning towards WOW.

Now, I know I'll catch heat for this as I'm sure most of you disagree with my opinion here, but . . . I much prefer the 3rd person MMORPG's. I absolutely loved Ultima Online - the combats seemed much more real-time, less point-click-watch oriented. How real time is WOW if your playing a fighter. Do you simply send him at the enemy and watch the combat proceed, clicking on your healing kit every now and then, or is it much more involved. It seemed to me that in EQ, unless you were playing a spellcaster, the battles were rather lack-luster.

My vision of the ultimate in MMORPG's is a Massive world of Diablo II. I love the 3rd person views, the real-time combat, etc. UO and Diablo II always made me feel like I was playing a miniature in one of my DnD sit downs.

I know. I know. You can toggle a 3rd person view in these games as well. Yeah - but they suck in relative comparison to the 3rd person of Diablo or UO.

Mainly want to know how involved combats are? On a scale from 1 to 10, where a 1 is No Involvement Required, to a 10, where involvement would be on par with Tribes II, where does WOW fall? What about GuildWars? For reference, I'd give UO a 7 and Diablo II an 8.

well to be truthful WoW is probably the first mmo i have played that lets you use the E,D,S,F commands and it has jump(spacebar) You can enable click to move but uhh why would you? WoW takes strategy maybe not as much as in guild wars but the only reason i say that is in Guild Wars you can only use 8 spells so you need to choose wisely besides that Guild Wars shouldnt really be considered an MMO because what they call professions surely isnt what WoW or most other MMO's call professions you choose from Necromance Elementalist Monk Warrior Ranger Mesmer and then you get your second profession which would be from that list too. WoW's professions are like Blacksmithing, Engineering, Tailoring so on.. there are major major differences between the two Personally i think you will like WoW better if you liked Ultima Online.

Yeah. There's similarities between WoW, EQ, and UO in my opinion which makes it easy to adapt to these games. WoW gives you 3rd person view and 1st person whichever you prefer so that's a plus. Combats can be pretty simple, but in some cases, deceptively simple. Thats how great WoW is when they designed the user configuration and such. I'd give it an 8.5, and EQ (original) a 7.5. EQII gets an 8 from what I've been hearing about it as well.

Here's basically what it comes down to.

Overall:
WoW > GW

Price:
GW > WoW

Gameplay:
WoW > GW

Graphics:
GW > WoW

Questing:
WoW > GW

PVP:
WoW > GW (I'll explain later in my post why this is true)

Class diversity:
WoW > GW (Meaning race, class, attributes etc)

Let's face it. WoW is just overall a better game than GW. GW costs a LOT less and is probably for the most part equally entertaining, but the gameplay in WoW just blows it away. Spells, classes, crafting professions, holy crap there are just so many things in WoW. GW does have WoW beat in graphics; WoW is kinda cartoony. In terms of questing, like other people were saying, WoW is far superior. Someone will come steal your mobs occasionaly, but you only have to wait like a minute for it to respawn.

PVP! Once the PvP battle grounds for WoW comes out, it is said that WoW will be the best selling video game of ALL TIME, and also the biggest money maker per month. The PVP Battlegrounds is like blizzard's secret weapon, it's going to be FUN AS HELL! (scuse the language)

You are WRONG. Guild Wars has both RPG and PvP, but they are seperated, and the PvP is a bit different than most MMORPG's.

GUILD WARS RULES World of Warcraft DROOLS!

You can come join my Level 7 Elementalist/Monk
