I am a diehard base player. Ever since I played with the Executioners, I have never played that much Classic (We were so anti-Classic it was scary...damn, miss those guys). All in all, I am strictly a base CTF player. I do dabble into Arena and Duel mods (and LakRabbit) but otuside of that, I'm a CTF player.

Only 1 point u may wish to reconsider...T1 elitist thing

Yes i have been playin in Tribes competition since...geezz so long.
Well, near beginning of T1

But ask any1 in the Dawg Pound here...I am in NO way an "Elitist"
I do happen to share some off "those" players views on Tribes gameplay.
The reason for this is...this game was made for team oriented play..ie...league/ladder competition
And as all know I HATE pubbin...but there isnt anything better then a honorable match/scrim/PU
And I always thought that T2c made changes that made comp better.
I competed in T1 base & Renegades
I competed in T2 base...then made the switch to classic when it came out.
So its not an elitist thing..its a gameplay (competition) thing for me

BTW...didnt realize it was that long b4 classic came out..memory not as good as it used to be.
Getting old ya know

Whoa, I only said "classuk" because that was the term many gave it in the various forums I've encountered during my job as T2 scrim coordinator.

I'm sure I said I like the mods (classic included) base is my fav but I play in a lot of servers. The snipe fests in MV are largely due to HM2 with DT bypassers... but not all snipers are cheaters. I believe MV doesn't even require DT on their server, I just always load it.

The difference is: They are not nearly the same game. Just because you have jetpacks and weapons that are named the same does not mean they are remotely the same thing as the originals.

The difference is: The maps in T2 are vast and infinite, you can go anywhere and do anything. The stock maps in vengeance are small and contained. You cannot go anywhere you want to.

The difference is: The intensity that comes along with T2, the fast paced flag duels, chases, having to watch your back constantly for shocklancers and shrikers, having to apply teamwork instead of cowboy tactics is no where found in vengeance.
Fast paced flag duels??? T2 is anything but fast. Vengeance's speed allows new players to gradually grasp the ropes of the game but T2, the lack of any speed at getting anywhere makes noobs want to cringe. Trying to midair in that game feels very awkward and most of the shots you have to aim entirely different then what reason advises you to do. In Vengeance all the shots feel comfortable and reasonbable. The spinfusor in T2 comes out so slow then seemingly goes into a warphole that makes it gain blazing speed and when someone is 40 meters away from you it looks like their long gone. I really couldnt get my mind around that game, even though it was fun to play. Going back to it after vengeance, my thoughts are that it seriously needs a grappler and become faster paced.

Maybe because the vengeance models are about 10x bigger than the T2/T1 models and there for easier to hit?

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

Im a Tribes 2 Veteran and i know you know what im talknig about. Take a look at some of the T2 movies like Descendants and see how the flag carriers are only about 50 meters away but look like their two times farther. Vengeance, i agree, is a dumbed down version of T2 but it has all the essential elements thats makes it a Tribes game. The 'dumbing' down of Vengeance is where i think the developers hit the jackpt regarding as to how T2's learning curve was extremely high. Maybe the sprites in that game are so small because the graphics arent that good and Vengeance's is enough to allow you to see the guy your shooting at. The numbers that tell how far away the player is actually obscures your view of him/her. One reason i say its so hard to grasp is basically that your forced to hit spacebar everytime you land and if you hold it down then most times it just stops your skiing.
Think about this, jumping is skiing? Thats very unrealstic and the concept of frictionless gravity boots in Vengeance gives you a reason how you are skiing. Anyone can just jump in the air down a hill. They might as well have explained to us that the Tribes players have slippery socks on their feet.
I'm not trying to argue with your point that you love Tribes 2, im just saying my opinion to the guy who started this forum. I'm really more enforcing his words of 'why play T2'?

The learning curve is exactly what makes it a great game. It takes time to get the hang of the game.

Considering Tribes 1 was basicly an accident, and that skiing wasn't even supposed to be a part of the game, it's only natural to add it the same way it was in the original like how it is in Tribes 2.

Go enjoy your clunky huge models in small maps though, they do say the delusional ones live in small spaces.

It's not that some people have willpower and some don't. It's that some people are ready to change and others are not. -James Gordon

Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the fearful it is threatening because it means that things may get worse. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better. To the confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make things better. -King Whitney Jr.

I'm open to change, if I wasn't I would still be playing t2 non-stop.

The thing is, vengeance isn't BETTER than t2. It's the exact opposite of better than t2, hence the low sales and the sudden drop of support from the development team. Perhaps if they hadn't chosen such a flashy "Oh look shiney graphics, who cares about gameplay" engine it may have been better. No wait, it WOULD have been better.
