Its a good thing noone was over one of those manholes when they blew! That would really hurt.

P E C O - Philadelphia Electric Company. PECO and PGW (Phila Gas Works are our corrupt utilities, the board members get 500,000 dollar bonuses... you name it there is an undercover investigation uncovering corruption and mismanagement almost every other year.

Some under ground maintenance work on malfuntioning power cables was part of the explanation. Fortunately I work 5 blocks from that location,and felt nothing. The weird thing is usually at the time of the explosions, usually I'd be walking around in that area. The entrance area for me to catch the El is half a block from the photo.
