I just saw XMen 3 and saw the trailer for Ghost Rider. Does anyone share my pain over how hollywood consistenly changes the stoyline of the origins and activities in comic book history?

They have done some bad things with the storylines on a few but I have to say that the Fantastic 4 movie they did was pretty darn awsome and I thought they followed the story to the T.

It'd be pretty boring if they stuck to the comic book storyline TBH... not to mention how long and drawn out the movies would be ;).

But, Kraska mentioned his disappointment with Xmen 3 when we saw it the other night... I'll tell you that if you go in hoping to see the comics/cartoons remade on the big screen you'll be disappointed (but you really shouldn't go in with that mindset). It's not like they completely trashed the whole thing... they loosely followed some stuff, but they did develop their own story arcs for cinema's sake.

yea I agree..... Sticking completely to the storyline is or would be the wrong way to go about it.

However the way they did F4 was pretty good, I liked it!

I dont mind the storyline not following the comics all the way, but what irritates me is how they totally redo the entire story and dont use ANY of the origins from the comics, thats what I dont like. Ex... Daredevil was a joke! I mean it had some comic material but for the most part it was just a joke!

well, its one thing to change some things about a story, and another to completely change the entire plot.

The first two xmen movies changed things about the story but did so in a way that it didnt ruin everything i've known about the xmen story line. This one butchered the phoenix saga and killed the possibility of branching off into several sub stories.

The phoenix isnt suposed to be some dual personality that turns Jean into a crazy red witch that ocasionally has some flames behind her when she blows something up. The phoenix is so must cooler than that :-/

that being said, i did enjoy the movie and its worth seeing. The action sequences and effects were well done. and there were a lot of really cool moments in it. It could have been so much better though

They do it with alot of literature-to-movie projects. Some movies are still good, and some need to be burned.

Batman. 'Nuffsaid. Batman Begins was pretty good. But everything up until that pretty much blew.

The Fantastic Four was a pretty good job, though they made Dr Doom more powerful than he ever was, I could live with it.

What ticked me off about the X-Men was the Phoenix, but also the X-Men themselves.

The original X-Men consisted of the Proffesor, Jean Gray, The Iceman, The Angel and The Beast. Wolverine, Storm and the others came on the scene much later. They butchered the whole storyline to get Wolverine into the movie because of gaming sales. Anyone that played the X-men playstation game wanted to be Wolverine.

Also, the Juggernaut was the Proffesor's mutant brother, his helmet was mystical in nature (he got it from some monks or shamen in Nepal or India) to prevent the Proffesor from mentally attacking him.
----------------------------------------------

Spiderman with natural webs? That cut out the whole "Young Scientist" part of his character. He made his own webshooters, and consistantly upgraded his web formula. He spent a lot of time in the lab (like Batman) sifting through evidence, discoveries, and finding cures to his own ailments (radioactive blood can be a pain)!
----------------------------------------------

What I'm getting at is; if the comic books can maintain a community for several decades, why does hollywood have to dink around with the storyline, when readers consistanly bombard Marvel comics with sticking to the (integrity?) of the characters. Seriously, they have a blogs, (and before the net) a huge section of the comics were Q and A from readers to the editor and art staff on origins, artwork and storyline screw ups.

Sometimes; I hate hollywood! I hope they don't screw up "Ghost Rider too!

I gave up on the Xmen movies halfway through the first. It's not xmen without gambit, case closed.

I love the spiderman movies, very well done.

The Punisher was my favorite comic, and they butchered the story of course, and the movie was not casted correctly for the most part, but they nailed the guy to play Frank. Perfect fit.
