Rather than ship a system that isn't fully working and isn't as flexible as we'd like, we're delaying the ability to associate yourself with an "official" team and team tag. In the open beta you can see this feature at the bottom of your profile screen. In the released version of the game this area will be greyed out.
Apologies to anyone who was really looking forward to this feature. I hope you agree that disabling this feature will be better than shipping a system that doesn't fully work and doesn't let you do what you want to do. The current plan, if given the opportunity, is to implement it properly in a future update,

Partially correct. Gamespy doesn't have (yet, they're close) a clan system. We hacked one together using their global name space. They've got millions of registered names in there already, so getting your clan tag thru would be next to impossible. VU is getting a global name space for all VU games, we'll switch to that as soon as it's available (hopefully we'll be the first into the space and we'll all get our names and clan tags as we want them). If Gamespy implements their clan system in the mean time, we have the option to implement that if it seems worth it.
