Speed Hack Detection is a must. Have you played T2 lately?

T2 is like a breading ground for hacks now. At least it seems like.

What servers do you play on? The only ppl who care about T2 anymore are the ones who truly love to play it...the game is not infested with hackers/cheaters as you might believe. Remember, sometimes you can be killed by someone who isn't cheating...

There are diehard honest players and there are cheaters, unfortunately there are a lot of cheaters in pubs. Speed hacks and other cheats are everywhere and the experienced cheater turns them on and off. I don't label everyone a cheater just because they are better skilled than I. I always had a bigger gripe about tkers than cheaters but now, I'm an equal opportunity admin for either if I spot them in a sever than I have admin rights. I have noticed that there are more cheaters than ever before and the cheat script of the season seems to be the speed hack.

I get killed all the time by people who aren't cheating . . . and it doesn't bother me one bit. I consider myself good, but not great - there are certainly better.

I don't see why it is so difficult to accept that someone who has played the game for 5 years (or longer) might actually be able to tell the difference between talent and "advantage".

I mention speed hacks because they are new enough that none of the T2 source code was designed to deal with them, and apparently neither was Defense Turret. If you don't believe such a thing exists I have found 3 or 4 different programs now that advertise their "speed hack" advantage, and they are useable across multiple games. I'd be happy to send you a link. Don't try them on WOW - you'll be banned for life. These are 3rd party programs. I have even downloaded and tested one. I played with it just long enough to figure out that there was some merit behind its claims. I also know what to look for:

-Slight amounts of lag that seem to "displace" the individual, making it harder to hit them.
-Increased capacity for height when using the jetpack (yes, I know how to disc jump - no that's not it)
-Sudden lag spikes during play
-Increased speed relevant to other players
-A slightly increased rate of fire
-And, as Serpreme calls it, lots of unregistered hits.

I've complained about the lag, displacement when trying to hit an "unhittable" foe, that they zip from place to place while I (as a light with a jet pack) am moving slower than a heavy with an ammo pack chasing them. They can hit you faster than you can shoot at them, MA's are common place to a speed hack, normal speed shocklances require a recharge that an opponent can use to an advantage, and 'unregistered hits"... you won't realise how damaged you are when facing a speed hacked chaingun, until you're dead!

One particularly interesting thing I noticed about the speedhack I tested was the rapid rate at which your energy bar would replenish itself. Admittedly, I had trouble finding a setting that offered smooth play and a speed advantage together, but I'm sure if you played around with the program enough and adjusted the settings appropriately you could find a good mix. Any experienced hacker would probably know exactly what to do with the program.

I honestly don't doubt there are cheat/hack users still playing T2...I do believe that there are far less than you claim. As for Serpreme's claims of 'unregistered hits'...sorry, but I take those with a grain of salt now...he claimed that against me...nope, I'm not a speed hack user...he just flat out missed. My point here is that you cannot just play with this constant paranoia. I'm sure I've played against some cheaters recently, but I realize that they are wasting their time. My advice is to not worry about others enhancing their skill with outside sources (heck, I think most scripts are cheats...I run T2 clean out of the box) and just worry mainly about enhancing your own skill...legitimately of course. My mentality is that if I can get better than the cheaters, then what do I have to worry about.

Ren, I don't know what Serpreme was talking about when you said he missed you. I'm talking about damage I receive and don't know it, when one MA leaves me dead. Perhaps you and Pharoah are referring to something different than I am but believe me there are plenty of hackers in T2. It's not paranoia and it won't keep me from playing T2. The hackers won't keep me or others from playing but I won't deny they exist. I've seen them play at a normal rate of speed and then when they get a flag or need to dodge a missile or a mortar they zip out of the blast radius. With the prolifferattion or multiple accounts, you never know who you are playing with nowadays!

If they disabled multiple accts and smurfing altogether it would force all to conform it has always been like this since the birth of online gaming... nothing no one can do and its pointless to bash the original topic of Starseige here. Back to topic peeps if you wanna discuss cheats, exploits, and hacks create a diff thread.

I didn't want to turn this into a cheat rant. I just hope that they plan on incorporating some speed hack detection into this Starsiege game they are creating. I don't care to start a game out on an engine where hacks are easily ported over to a new game. Otherwise, I am very excited about this games launch.

you know, phpbb has a feature called "split thread" and for some reason i've never seen anyone use it here except me in the havoc wars thread...moderators might want to take all the cheating replies and split them into their own thread.

/me digs post out from the past
I dont call people cheaters in Tribes. If you get unreg'd a lot it can be due to houndred of things. I've had times when 90% of the bullets dont register on me for like a span of 10 mins. Could be a spot of lag...may not be.
Either way you get crushed all the same in the end.!
