Yes, I've been reduced to playing T2 on servers full of cussing, bad mouthing, hack loving, llamas. I can't make Wednesdays and only an occassional Sunday, so my RD play is limited. Even then, it's not like the good ole 16 vs. 16 days - gettin ran over by Striker, tanked by Metalhead, HOed down by Mach, trying to knock Seargant off of the damn flag, getting sniped by Flocks and Snipeye, chained by Cynagen, Disced by Kraska, turreted by Mom or Lady . . .

Ahh the good ole days.
 I didn't make Pharoah's list of memories...

I did! And he spelled "Floks" name wrong too. I also don't see DUN_DUNNA's name either... Or Ringleader, or Uphoria.

Sorry guys. I knew I was opening up a can of worms, by putting names out there . . . Sooo many players, so many talents, but for the record . . . many of those names I missed were from the "O" roster and usually on my side. :)

For those of you I missed, I miss you too. I miss the group battles, the dynamics, the days when capturing a flag meant 4 or 5 of the offense folks had to grab it before it was posted, the days when strategy meant something, the days when teamwork was a necessity.

I play on Rebels Katabatic mostly now. It's a V2 server full of cussing, bad mouthing scoundrels who are fond of their wall, HM2, and shrike hacks, but . . . it has players almost all the time.

V2 is all that's left except for Wednesdays and Sundays when RD makes an appearance.

If you mean V2 split the community in half and ultimately bankrupted the player base, I would agree.

V2 is a fun mod and I have to agree with something somebody once said. V2 improves your chaingun straffing, atleast for me. It improves my coordination because the mod is at a faster pace, and its fun.

A poor launch and an elitist community killed t2.

V2 just poured salt into the wound.

Ouch, sometimes the truth hurts and there's a lot of truth in thast statement.

IMHO, classic became the mod that took most of the community. Now I was only interested in tribes that could field 16-20 warriors. I tried to set-up scrims with a lot of the big organized tribes and they were all into classic. NI4NI, BEE, ZH, jees I can't remember them all but they all turned me down flat because we were still playing base.

Only ATF (now AGENT) Knights of something, STAR, and then the combined scrims to match up to the numbers we would field. There were other tribes willing to scrim but a minimum of 14 warriors was tough for them to come up with.

As for V2; at the time I was the RD Scrim coordinator, there were just a few V2 tribes and Legelos of SM was the only leader of a true V2 tribe that was willing to scrim with us. So I think classic was the base killer, V2 has merely attracted all the speed demons from both base and classic.

What is an "elitist community"? I'm not trying to be flippant - I am genuinely curious as to what that means to you.

I have to agree wholeheartedly with Dunna. It was Classic that split the T2 community down the middle and ultimately killed T2. I think the effort by the V2 mod designers was to try to bring the best of Base and the best of Classic into one MOD and regroup everyone. A failure, but a noble effort nonetheless.

My beef with Classic was that a Heavy could ski almost as fast as a light, thereby creating less "strategy" and making the game nothing more then a rape fest. You didn't have the same issue with V2. For the most part I liked V2; I prefer lasers coming out of my shrike instead of chain bullets, and I like to see the laser from a snipers rifle (it's way too thin in V2). I love the MOD on the Sensor Jammer pack (always active unless seeking cloaked opponents). I think capping can be a little too easy on V2, especially in PUB.

I know from my areial dogfight days that there certinly are elitist sections of T2. Back in the day you could use any ship in the mod, but this changed, an now if you use anything other then the 'owl', or something thatis inferior then the owl you basically get yelled out of the server. The owl is seen as being the most 'skillful' ship, and anything else is consider cheap. Essentually what teh owl uses have done is created a social atmosphere that forces players to adopt their skill set, and abandon any other set of skills that would be counter to this. There are several paralells in ctf.

Look in any forum and you will find threads on "chaingun whores are nOObs", "snipers are noobs", "mortar spammers are llama", "shrikes need to be nerfed", classic sucks, base sucks, "your server and/or tribe sucks", yada, yada, yada... rinse and repeat!

Oh and my favorite... "I pwn you because I am l33t, my tribe is l33t3r than yours, my shocklance pwns all, I am a god in light none can catch me, I am the l33test capper. I can win all scrims for my tribe by myself , don't talk to me about teamwork, cause I am l33t and have pwned all since the Big Bang which was cause by my awesome scores"!

Generally, in every corner of the game there was a group of elitists who would chase new players and even respectable veterans out of servers with their ridiculous expectations that every one play the game how they want, with the same skill as themselves. Even when they did meet their match in someone unknown to the commoners in said corner, they were chased away with "OMG HAXXX!!@313" and "You are so lucky" and so on. Classic did not kill t2. Classic killed base, but preserved the majority of the community for quite some time until v2 came out. V2 while having good intentions just as Classic did, essentially divided an already divided and dying community once more.

If T2 even had a normal launch, I'm almost positive Dynamix would have remained intact for even a little bit longer. If Dynamix had survived, we would be having this discussion maybe 6 months from now instead. Loss of active development due to a poor launch and a community filled with egos will always kill a game too soon, no matter how great it is.
