Is it possible to file a class-actoin suit against Sony on behalf of buyers that bought Sony CDs that have the root kit on their computers, and are unable to remove them due to increasing your computer's vulnerability when you try to decrease it? I would have to say it sounds feasible, if a person makes a computer and it is hacked or whatever, and the person has a professional (or team of professionals) to look over the code, and prepare their own independent analysis of the root kit, its effects, positive or negative, and their own recommendations in a court of law. Hmm... maybe I should just make a dummy PC and have it be hacked, then get coding specialists to look it over...

From what I understand, lawsuits are forming left and right all over California over this matter. I'm sure other areas are doing the same or will be following closely as well.. things don't look that bright for Sony any longer, and I can't really say I'm disappointed. I was ripped off numerous times by SOE over fees for online games I've never even played past the free trials.

I should have been more specific in my last reply. In the article sup section "Owned by Sony" there is a graphic of North America, the pic has highlighted area's to represent the PC's across america that were "calling home" to Sony via the root kits making DNS inquiries. 568,200 DNS servers that have signatures of the Sony root kit were calling home.

Sony is in big trouble! ;)

I think Sony forgot that kids aren't the only people listening to music and loading rootkits on their parents PC's.

Doctors, lawyers, law enforcement officers, politicians, engineers, etc, etc like to listen to music too. Now one likes to feel duped, especially professionals with a bunch of credentials following their names.

For law enforcement, intelligence agencies, military or government officials that deal with sensitive material... I can only imagine their reaction when they find root kits on their PC's thanks to Sony. I can't wait for the government to realise the breach in security caused by this incident. Almost everyone listens to cd's while working, they may not burn it at work, but I guareentee you there are music cds spinning while the drones are working.

What's really interesting is that the CDs that they produced with such things on it were really No-Name artists that I'd imagine appeals to the older population if not entirely. Of course, the list of infected CDs I read could have very well been wrong. I'm trying to remember exactly where I read it at.

I saw that list too, but I'm pretty sure there are more cds than originally listed. That graphic of alleged infected PCs/ DNS inquiries is too widespread in my opinion.

Alright that's it. Next news article I read about Sony better be titled either "Sony Gives Millions to Customers" or "Sony Headquarters Self Destruct Worldwide!"

Blogs usually don't have pics but if you read the article, the stance that the State Gov of Mass took against Microsoft and its software by going open source makes a lot of sense now.

Can you imagine the mess this will become? Email, news articles, vids, pics, everything could become dragged down in DRM mire! There has to be a limit and soon, the government, our politicians need to step up to the plate and start swinging.

That day isn't too far off in the future, Stup. I could easily see, poets, authors and politicians screaming for their share of the wealth. Especially the custodians of estates, I could be wrong here, but to me Microsoft is to blame for this headache.

Ever since they came up with the notion that my copy of Microsoft software was only good for a couple installiations, once that loophole was exposed we've had nothing but problems ever since. I blame the judge for letting them open Pandora's Biox!
