Hehe. I had three games in a row with top speeds over 300.

Unfortunately, there was little to no skill involved.

But you already knew that right? :)

In one map I had a disc hit me square in the back as I was lunging through the air. It gave me a huge boost.

In another map I was next to a vehicle that exploded and it launched me so far I hit the map boundary from the opposite side of the map.

Anyway, I am sure everyone knows that while you are using the energy pack you can push your "use pack" button and it will give you a momentary boost of speed, right . . .?

You can also jump off of the little pads for a boost, and you can slingshot yourself with the grappling hook - apparently it is a bungy cord . . . :)

I've gotten in excess of 200, but the maps are so small going much faster is harder and kinda pointless when you sacrifice so much control.

Pharoah you lie I saw you on Isle grab the enemy flag, from the stand, and get back to our base in like 1/2 a second! Share the wealth!

Yeah I knew all of that I'm just trying to get to 400 kph/mph/whatever unit of measurement per hour. I have seen it done in game on the 5150 server and the CkB server.

Ya know, I am not really sure then. There's no trick to skiing really - just hold down your ski button - I noticed you can ski down hill, cross country, and uphill to some extent.

As to fast caps - keep your energy pack close to full until you get close to the flagstand, then hit your "use pack" keybind for that extra boost of energy, and let the game dynamics take over. The maps are so short a small boost of energy at the right time takes you to the other side.

Disc jumping works too - not as well as it did in T1 and it may very well serve to be your death, but you can get some momentum.

And of course, when you run out of energy, if there's something above you to latch onto with your grappling hook . . . swing like a monkey, it's by far my favorite part of the game - takes some getting used to, but I love it.

One thing about the current maps is that it seems hard for me to get good cap routes if I cap from side to side. Most maps don't provide much space behind the flag for a cap run. But for Cavern I actually have more luck coming up to the flag stand, stopping, turning and e-boosting straight home. I can make that run at really fast speed, but I can't for the life of me do it from the side. It's too hard to change your momentum and I run into the wall instead of making the turn. :?

Are there going to be cap limits in the retail version? I hope so. Or at least some kind of mercy rule if you're up by 6 caps or something.

Faro - you use grappler on all maps?

I found the best way to learn is join a rabbit server. Some of the people I've seen can do some crazy stuff with the grapple hook.

Yeah "gravity capping", its the new phrase grappling a pole/tree/stalagtite and swinging back around to accelerate, is insane.

I still can't get to 300 mph/kph. My personal best is 230 on an empty server, specifically trying to go as fast as I can.

Helpful tips:
  • Use the e-pack boost on the way downhill.
  • You lose momentum when skiing uphill so jet as the terrain starts upwards.
  • Try not to use the jetpack to make corrections in your route. Instead use the aircontrol feature.
  • Try to hit every hill in the middle as opposed to the peak when skiing.

I have been. Always trying to focus on the caps. I will state though that the grappler isn't as useful in the open maps - other weapons are probably better suited for these maps.

Roping trees is "eh" "ok", but the timing is so particular if it's really going to be of use. You have to hit the tree at the right angle, slingshot yourself around it, and disconnect the grappler all in perfect timing to get any extra speed from it.

If you when you are in the air the directional keys (WSAD) give you extra distance. So if you jet straight up till your jet pack gives out, then cut your jets and hold any directional key you will fall in that direction, without having to use your jet pack.

Because of the large amount of vertical thrust from jetting you lose momentum when you use your jetpack, to counter this they develope "air control" (Not the official term). You can use aircontrol to make minor adjustment to your movement saving your jets and maximizing your speed.
